Never ending belief

The lights that glisten,
Do not mean gold.
The sparkle in my eye,
Does not mean I am whole.

I have lived a life,
Of difficulty and sorrow.
People come along,
Thinking happiness they can borrow.

But I have given all I have.
In the end left alone,
With darkness by my side,
And tears that cover my eyes.
Nevertheless, the smile you see is real.
For in beauty I believe,
Always and forever, the belief no one can steal.
